1944 publisher's rejection letter

Today the Twitter account for the British publisher Jonathan Cape posted a 1944 rejection letter to a hopeful author. Poor Major Brothers was turned down because of wartime paper rationing.

  1. What a find. That's ONE rejection I've not received and hope we're never in a position in our county to have that one going to to writers again.

    Thanks for sharing this!

  2. I wondered whether the good major ever found a publisher. A quick check on Amazon didn't reveal a book by him. Did Major Brothers ever join the ranks of the published?
